Effects of Volunteering
Literature Review
According to "Volunteering in America 2010," the Volunteer Rate decreased as the Poverty Rate increased. This indicates that higher the volunteer participation, the lower poverty rate within the community.

Following this reasoning, we also strive to educate growing children in developing countries who cannot get a proper education through the ICT application and by providing necessities within the sanitary kits. Hopefully, with our efforts, we will be able to decrease the rate of poverty in developing countries and create a better future for the future generations.

According to VSO, "Impact beyond volunteering," volunteering has had drastic effects on the volunteers' mental states. For instance, 84% of the volunteers who helped out their own community claimed an increase in confidence. Likewise, 84% also claimed that they gained new knowledge and learning by lending a hand to those in need.

Our team also experienced similar results, considering that all three of our team members claimed to have increased confidence, an opportunity to interact with and learn more about children in developing countries, sanitation, and family health, while we also learned new skills such as creating a website, well-organized brochure and PPT, along with educational quizzes and comics.

Although we could not visit the Philippines yet due to the recent volcano eruption and outbreak of the coronavirus, we can still claim a significant increase in terms of learning new skills, growing confidence and self-awareness, along with confidence and resilience to overcome various challenges.

Throughout our project, we can come to a conclusion that volunteering is not just for the benefit of developing countries or those in need, but rather also for the volunteers themselves.

We also hope that this volunteer project of educating children in developing Southeast Asian countries will decrease poverty levels from the status quo.
