Problem Identification

According to UNFPA,19% of female adolescents aged 15-19 did not use modern contraception, while a higher percentage of 26% of women aged 20-24 years old did not use modern contraception, thus exposing them to the risk of unintended pregnancy. Furthermore, the Philippines Statistics Authority illustrates 10% of girls aged 15-19 are either a mother or pregnant with their first child and 43% of women aged 20-24 years old are already mothers. In fact, one in seven girls of the people in Asia and the Pacific has given birth by the age of 18, while 63% of the adolescent pregnancies contribute to unsafe abortions. With unsafe sex and improper use of contraception, 20% of men have reported STI symptoms in 2015 according to the UNFPA.

In order to prevent teenage pregnancy and life-threatening abortions, it is crucial to educate adolescents about contraception and sexually transmitted diseases, along with the possibility of unsafe abortion (considering that abortion is illegal in the Philippines) and other consequences that may occur due to unsafe sex. Considering that one in seven girls in the Asia Pacific region have given birth by the age of 18, the team has a long-term goal of eventually expanding sexual education through education using ICT technology along with the distribution of sanitary kits to other Asia Pacific countries such as the Philippines, Vietnam, and other South Asian countries with the highest adolescent fertility rates, given that the research is successful.
